Demand for new passenger cars in the EU grew by 10.4% in June, totaling over one million vehicles registered (1,048,143). Among the main national markets, Germany posted the highest increase (+24.5%), followed by Spain (+17.1%) and Italy (+12.6%, with 149,438 units sold, about 16.7 thousand more compared to June 2020), while France slowed down significantly (-14.7%).
In the first half of the year, European car market expanded by 25.2%, reaching 5,361,857 units overall, 1.1 million over the same period last year but still 1.5 million lower than what recorded in 2019, before COVID-19 emergency.
Looking at the major markets, Italy performed the best (+51.4%, with 884,750 registrations), followed by Spain (+34.4%), France (+28.9%) and Germany (+14.9%).
