The contraction of the European car market continues. After the poor result in August, September also recorded a pessimistic -6.1%, with negative performances in three of the four main markets: France -11.1%, Italy -10.7% (with 121,725 units, over 14.5 k less than in September 2023), and Germany -7.0%. Spain was the exception, showing a +6.3% increase.
From January to September, car registrations in Europe remained stable at +0.6%, nearly reaching 8 million units. The Spanish (+4.7%) and Italian (+2.1%, with 1,202,447 registrations, about 25 k over the same period last year) markets were positive, while France and Germany saw declines (-1.8% and -1.0% respectively).
Hybrid cars (32.8%) have surpassed petrol (29.8%) in market share, followed by electric vehicles (17.3%) and diesel (10.4%).
