Passenger car registrations grew for the fifth consecutive month in December 2022 (+12.8%), totaling 896,967 units all across Europe.
Looking at the main national markets, Germany performed the best (+38.1%), followed with double digit numbers by Italy (+21.0%, with 104,915 registrations, about 18.2 thousand more compared to December 2021). On the other hand, Spain fell by 14.1%, while France remained stable (-0.1%).
Considering the whole year, demand for new passenger cars in Europe contracted by 4.6%, with 9,255,930 units sold. This result was mainly due to the negative trend recorded in the first half of the year. Among the biggest markets, Germany only posted growth (+1.1%), while all others contracted: Italy -9.7% (with 1,316,702 registrations, over 141 thousand less compared to 2021); France -7.8%; Spain -5.4%.
