The positive trend in the European car market continues. Following July’s +3% growth, registrations increased by 4.5% in August, marking the seventh consecutive month of growth, with a total of 708,211 units registered.
Looking at the major markets, Spain recorded the strongest growth (+11.8%), followed by France (+7.4%), Italy (+3.2%, with 69,420 registrations, more than 2,000 above August 2025) and Germany (+2.6%).
From January to August, total demand for new cars in Europe was up 5.3%, with 7,546,397 registrations. Among the key markets, Italy once again recorded the strongest growth (+8.5%), with 1,128,768 registrations – more than 88,000 above the first eight months of last year – followed by Spain (+6.3%), Germany (+4.8%) and France (+3.0%).
Looking at powertrains, hybrids continue to be the number-one choice among European motorists, accounting for 36.6% of the market. Petrol and battery-electric vehicles followed on an equal 21.7%, ahead of plug-in hybrids (10%) and diesel (7.3%).
