Demand for new cars in Europe continues to grow, with May marking the fourth consecutive month of positive results. Registrations increased by 3.2%, reaching a total of 955,013 units sold.
Among the major markets, Italy delivered the strongest performance (+7.6%, with 150,043 registrations, around 10,600 more than in May 2025), followed by France (+3.7%). Germany remained broadly stable (+0.1%), while Spain recorded a slight decline (-0.8%).
Over the first five months of the year, the European car market grew by 4.0%, with a total of 4,748,801 registrations. Italy remains the best-performing major market, posting growth of 9.4% (789,802 units, approximately 67,500 more than in the same period last year), followed by Spain (+5.8%) and Germany (+3.6%). France recorded a modest decline (-0.6%).
Hybrid vehicles remain motorists’ preferred choice, accounting for 37.8% of the market, followed by petrol cars (22.4%), battery-electric vehicles (20.0%), plug-in hybrids (9.7%), and diesel vehicles (7.6%).
