From January to September 2023, the EU market witnessed a significant boost in the sales of vans, trucks, and buses.
New van registrations increased by 14.3%, reaching a total of 1 million units, mainly thanks to the strong performances of some of the biggest markets, with Spain (+20.5%), Germany (+18.2%), and Italy (+16.7%, with 139,450 units sold, about 20k more compared to the first three quarters of 2022) all recording double-digit growth.
In the truck market, registrations grew by 23.0%, with Germany leading the way (+31.2%), followed by Spain (+23.8%), Italy (+17.0%) and France (+15.6%).
New bus registrations also posted substantial growth (+18.5%), particularly in Italy (+65.9%), and Spain (58.1%), with France recording the highest number of new registrations (4,735 units).
Nine months into the year, diesel maintained the largest market share in all three segments (respectively 82.9%, 95.5% and 64.7%), but alternative power sources – such as electrically chargeable vans and buses – are getting more popular.
