The year ended on a positive note for passenger car registrations in Europe. After a slowdown in November, growth resumed in the final month of the year, with a +5.1% increase, equivalent to 910,505 units sold.
There were significant differences among the major markets, with Spain showing strong growth (+28.8%) and France a more modest increase (+1.5%), while Germany (-7.1%) and Italy (-4.9%, with 105,786 registrations, about 5,400 fewer than in December 2023) saw declines.
Overall, in 2024, demand for new cars in Europe grew by 0.8%, reaching approximately 10.6 million units. Spain saw growth (+7.1%), whereas France (-3.2%) and Germany (-1.0%) experienced declines. Italy remained mostly stable, with a -0.5% change (1,559,229 units, nearly 8,000 fewer than the previous year).
In 2024, petrol vehicles remained the top choice (33.3%), followed by hybrids (30.9%), electric cars (13.6%), and diesel vehicles (11.9%).
