In July 2020, passenger car registrations posted only a small decline (-5.7%) compared to what recorded in the previous four months, with 1,072,960 units sold and some good results coming from French and Spanish markets (respectively +3.9% and +1.1%).
In August, on the contrary, the decline was more pronounced (-18.9%): with the only exception of Italy (-0.4%, with 88,801 cars registered, only 383 less than in August 2019), all main national markets posted double digit losses: Germany -20.0%; France -19.8%; Spain -10.1%.
From January to August, demand for new passenger cars in the EU fell by 32.0%, totaling 6,123,852 registrations, nearly 2.9 million less than in the same period last year. Looking at the biggest markets, Spain posted the worse performance (-40.6%), followed by Italy (-38,9%, with 809.655 vehicles, over 500 thousand less than in the first eight months of 2019), France (-32.0%) and Germany (-28.8%).
