Commercial vehicle registrations in the EU: -44.4% in May, -36.7% in five months

European commercial vehicle market kept contracting in May (-44.4%), with 109,431 units sold overall, compared to the 196,855 of one year ago.

All main national markets posted large losses: Spain -59.0%; Germany -47.9%; Italy -36.5% (with 12,959 registrations, about 7.5 thousand less compared to May 2019); France -35.0%.

Looking at the different segments, Heavy Trucks and Trucks were the most affected (respectively -59.7% and 56.9%), followed by Bus & Coach (-56.5%) and LCV (-41.3%).

From January to May, commercial vehicle registrations fell by 36.7%, as a consequence of the negative results recorded in the last three months. Among the biggest markets, Spain posted the worst outcome (-49.3%), followed by Italy (-40.3%, with 54,635 units, nearly 37 thousand less compared to the same period last year), France (-40.2%) and Germany (-28.2%).
