Passenger car registrations in the EU: +7.4% in July, −0.7% year-to-date (Jan–Jul 2025)

New car registrations across the EU rose by 7.4% in July to 914,680 units, driven by strong increases in Spain (+17.1%) and Germany (+11.1%).

By contrast, France and Italy contracted by 7.7% and 5.1% respectively; Italy recorded 118,583 registrations in July – 6,351 fewer than in July 2024.

From January to July, demand for new passenger cars decreased by 0.7%, with 6,491,448 new registrations. France and Germany fell by 7.9% and 2.5% respectively; Italy declined 3.7% to 973,755 units – 37,810 fewer than in the same period last year – while Spain delivered robust year-to-date growth (+14.3%).

On the powertrain side, hybrid-electric models continued to expand, capturing 34.7% of the market; battery-electric cars accounted for 15.6% and plug-in hybrids 8.6%. Petrol accounted for 28.3% and diesel for 9.5%.
