Passenger car registrations in the EU: +3.1% in September, -28.8% in nine months

In September 2020, after eight consecutive months of contraction, European passenger car market increased by 3.1%, with 933,987 registrations.

Among the biggest markets, Italy posted a definitely good performance with +9.5% (counting 156,132 units, 13.600 more than in September 2019), as well as Germany (+8.4%), while France lost 3.0% and Spain fell by 13.5%.

From January to September, passenger car registrations in the EU declined by 28.8%, totaling about 7 million cars sold, almost 2.9 million less compared to the same period last year. In nine months, all main national markets declined: Spain -38.3%; Italy -34.2% (with 966,017 thousand registrations, about 502 thousand less than one year ago); France -28.9%; Germany -25.5%.
