European passenger car market in the EU: +21.0% in August, +17.9% in eight months

Demand for new passenger cars in Europe increased by 21.0% in July, counting 787,626 units sold overall and marking the thirteenth month of growth in a row.

All main national markets expanded: Germany +37.3%; France +24.3%; Italy +11.9% (with 79,727 registrations, about 8.5 thousand more compared to August 2022); Spain +7.8%.

Considering the first eight months of 2023, passenger car registrations grew by 17.9%, with 7,078,464 units all across Europe. All four major markets posted double digit figures: Spain +20.5%; Italy +20.2% (with 1,039,773 cars registered, around 174.5 thousand over the same period last year); France +16.6%; Germany +16.5%.

Looking at the type of power source, battery-electric cars posted an exceptional +21.0%, exceeding 20% for the first time, while hybrid-electric ones reached a significant 23.9%.
