European passenger car market: +17.8% in June, +17.9% in six months

Demand for new passenger cars in the EU increased by 17.8% in June, growing for the eleventh consecutive month, with about 1 million units overall.

Looking at the four biggest European markets, Germany led the growth (+24.8%) followed by Spain (+13.3%), France (+11.5%) and Italy (+9.1%, with 138,901 registrations, around 11.6 thousand more than in June 2022).

In the first half of 2023, European passenger car market expanded by 17.9%, with 5.4 million vehicles registered. From January to June, all major markets posted double digit numbers: Spain +24.0%; Italy +22.8% (counting 840,750 registrations, 156.3 thousand over the same period last year); France +15.3%; Germany +12.8%.

In the last month, battery electric cars went from 10.7% to 15.1% of the market and hybrid electric vehicles were still the second choice (24.3%).
