European passenger car market: +14.6% in October, +16.7% in ten months

Passenger car registration kept growing in October with a significant +14.6% (855,484 units) and posting the fifteenth consecutive month of growth.

Among the largest markets, France recorded the highest upturn (+21.9%), followed in double-digit numbers by Italy (+20.0%, with 139,045 registrations, over 23 thousand more compared to October 2022) and Spain (+18.1%), while Germany increased at a slower rate (+4.9%).

From January to October 2023, demand for new passenger cars in the EU went up by 16.7%, totaling nearly 8.8 million units overall and with double-digit results in all main markets: Italy +20.4% (with 1,315,033 registrations, almost 223 thousand over the same period last year); Spain +18.5%; France +16.5%; Germany +13.5%.

Looking at the different power sources, battery-electric cars surpassed diesel with 14.2% of the market, while hybrid-electric was confirmed as second choice (28.6%) right behind petrol.
