The first quarter showed a sharp decline for the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, which fell by 12.2% between January and March, with 352,490 vehicles registered. The drop was driven by significant contractions in Italy (-15.2%, with 47,740 units sold, over 8,500 fewer than in Q1 last year), as well as in France and Germany (both down by 10.7%). Spain was the only major market to record growth, rising by 12.6%.
The truck segment also slowed, down 16.0% with a total of 72,941 registrations. Germany (-25.4%), France (-17.6%), Spain (-12.8%), and Italy (-9.4%) all saw big declines.
The drop in the bus & coach segment was less pronounced, down 1.8% with a total of 8,674 registrations. Germany and Italy posted negative performances (-15.0% and -7.3% respectively), while Spain (-0.5%) and France (+0.1%) remained broadly stable.
Across all segments, diesel remains the dominant fuel choice: 82.5% for LCVs, 93.4% for trucks, and 65.9% for buses & coaches.
