European commercial vehicle market: -17.7% in May, -19.8% in five months

Demand for new commercial vehicles in Europe kept contracting in May, recording the eleventh consecutive month with negative results (-17.7%), with 136,410 units sold overall.

All biggest markets posted double digit losses, with Spain marking the worst performance (-29.3%), followed by Germany (-19.5%), France (-16.8%) and Italy (11.1%, with 18,091 registrations, over 2.2 thousand less than in May 2021).

Among the segments, LCV lost 22.1%, affecting the whole market. On the contrary, Heavy Trucks and Trucks gained respectively +8.0% and + 3.6%, while the growth was definitely more significant for Bus & Coach segment, posting +32.8%.

From January to May 2022, commercial vehicle registrations in EU went down by 19.8%, totaling 673,095 units. Three of the top four national markets recorded double digit losses: Spain -31.2%; France -22.3%; Germany -17.1%. Five months into the year, Italy decreased at a slower pace (-8.2%), with 85.506 vehicles sold, over 7.6 thousand less compared to the same period last year).
