European commercial vehicle market: +13.3% in September, -24.5% in nine months

In September 2020, commercial vehicle registrations in the EU increased significantly, with 163,512 units sold, more than 19 thousand over September 2019 (+13.3%). Italy posted the highest performance amongst the biggest markets (+17.8%, with 18,027 vehicles registered, about 2.7 thousand more than one year ago), followed by Germany (+17.6) and France (+15.1%), all with double digit figures. Also Spain posted growth, although with lower numbers (+6.6%).

With an eye to the different segments, LCV grew by 15.7%, while Trucks only by 2.7%. On the other hand, Heavy Trucks lost 1.7% and Buses & Coaches declined by 4.5%.

From January to September, demand for new commercial vehicles in Europe dropped by 24.5%, totaling 1,206,259 registrations, with double digit losses in all of the 27 EU markets. Looking at the largest ones, Spain contracted by 33.0%, Italy by 21.7% (with 121,772 units sold, around 33.7 thousand less compared to the same period last year), France by 21.6% and Germany by 21.4%.
