The downward trend in car registrations across Europe continues, with a 3.4% decline in February, equating to a total loss of 853,670 units.
Among the major markets, Germany recorded the sharpest drop at -6.4%, followed by Italy, which saw a 6.2% decrease with 138,020 new registrations, nearly 9,200 fewer than in February 2024. France experienced a slight contraction (-0.7%), while Spain stood out with an 11.0% increase.
Since the beginning of the year, new car demand in Europe has declined by 3.0% overall. Apart from Spain, which recorded a strong +8.4% in line with January’s performance, the other major markets remained in negative territory: Italy -6.0% (271,747 registrations, almost 17,500 fewer than in the same period last year); Germany -4.6%; France -3.3%.
In terms of powertrains, hybrid cars remain the top choice, capturing a 35.2% market share, followed by petrol (29.1%), electric (15.2%), and diesel (9.7%).
